Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit submit Joint Bid for Tourism Expo

The municipal director of Tourism of Puerto Vallarta, Mr. José Luis Díaz Borioli, reported that Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit have been collaborating on a joint proposal to host the national Tourism Tianguis 2012 )National Tourism Expo). The Tourism Trust of Puerto Vallarta and Nayarit Trust contracted a company to prepare and present the proposal on behalf of the states of Jalisco and Nayarit to host this major event in 2012.

The secretary announced that the deadline for the proposal was Friday 14 May and had resulted in a joint coordination between the authorities of Jalisco and Nayarit to meet the requirements of the committee.
Diaz Borioli suggested that one of the strongest points in favor of the joint bid is the collaboration between 2 of Mexico´s leading tourist destinations. Currently only a dozen states have formally presented their nominations for the Tourism Tianguis 2012, confirmed Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Quality, of the Ministry of Tourism Héctor de la Cruz.

The international airport of Puerto Vallarta will also help the chances of the joint bid, as the airport is well equipped to receive such heavy traffic, being second only to Cancun concerning tourism.

However he clarified that an international airport is not essential nor are there absolute requirements on infrastructure targets sought by the Tianguis, what is more important is the number of hotel rooms or adequate convention centers.

He hinted at the possibility, indeed, that some infrastructure may have headquarters in nearby hotels but must be easily accessible to the main convention area. In any case, the evaluation committee is still accepting submissions, and as the time comes will have to analyze what is the place that offers the best conditions in terms of services, air and road connectivity.

On this last point, the official clarified that a deciding factor for the travel expo is air connectivity, for the joint bid the Puerto Vallarta International Airport should help its chances. To date, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and Mazatlán, Sinaloa have all submitted their bids. In accordance with the rules of operation of the Evaluation Committee recently released by the Ministry of Tourism, the results and final host of the travel expo will be unveiled within a week’s time.
