“Chayito”, a nick name for Francisca, participated in the First American Championships in Athletics and Swimming for people with Down syndrome. She arrived back in Puerto Vallarta, producing five medals of the five races she participated in, “Chayito”, is the pride of all of Mexico and particularly Puerto Vallarta, her hometown.
Friends and family filled the airport as they awaited her arrival from Venezuela where the Championships took place. Accompanied by her mother, “Chayito” was greeted with admiration and many balloons.
Lomeli Celina Ramirez, president of DIF who was also among the welcoming committee, stated, “Chayito” is an example of discipline and dedication. We are very proud of her accomplishment and she is a prime example that anything can be achieved. There are no barriers or disabilities of what we can do when the heart is what drives us.”
Director of Social Development, Adrián González Méndez, also acknowledged “Chayito” as an example of life. She made her family and those who had the pleasure of taking part in her victory, very proud of her athletic achievements.
Rebeca Jiménez Mendoza, Technical secretary of the Council for Persons with Disabilities, said she will continue to provide all possible support for those who need it.
