Fiestas de Mayo 2011 Schedule of Events Many events are free and open to the public. Many of the activities are to take place at Los Arcos Amphitheater, Plaza Caracol and the Rio Cuale Cultural Center.
On May 31, 1928, Puerto Vallarta officially became a municipality, and in 1968, gained its official title as a city in the state of Jalisco. Visitors can enjoy an outdoor musical show along the Malecón celebrating this special day, speeches by city officials honoring their history and eat a piece of the city’s gigantic birthday cake at the Presidencia Municipal square. At night, the city unites in celebration to watch fireworks and after-hours fiestas.
Join the festivities as PV proudly celebrates the occasion with Las Fiestas de Mayo (The May Festivities). In 2011, the city enjoys its 93rd year as a municipality and 43rd anniversary as a city.
City Hall, in conjunction with its Art and Culture department, has organized the activities of “The Puerto Vallarta Cultural May Festival,” including a variety of events featuring music, theatre, dance, photography, gastronomy and cinema, for Vallarta residents and visitors alike.
